AIR FILTER & AUTOMATIC CHOKE: To check your air filter, first remove the air box wing nut and then the air box cover itself. Remove the air filter and if you cannot see sunlight through it, have it replaced. By having a clean air filter, you can often get better gas mileage and better engine response. If you have a problem starting your car or if it continues to run fast after it has had plenty of time to warm up, you'll need to check the automatic choke mechanism. The automatic choke is a plate that sits on the top of the carburetor and you'll need to check to make sure that it's not sticky or dirty. If it's either one of these, you'll need to take a spray lubricant and spray the pivot point here and here as well as lubricate the choke linkage itself here.
